Google earth import - 1000 de La Gauchetière, Montreal
Hey all,
So I recently had the idea to import buildings from Google earth into Theotown via photo editing. Was quite a tricky process to get right, but I think this is a cool first proof of concept.
I made the 1000 de La Gauchetière, a mixed commercial building from my hometown of Montreal. Overall the building is noticeably imported looking from up close, however when zooming out I think it looks fine. Here's how it looks in my city: Anyways it would be neat to see what can be done with direct Google earth imports. In no way should it replace drawing plugins, but I can see it becoming a useful tool to create more accurate buildings.

Not bad, but you should put concrete and details on the ground instead of that brown zone texture.

It looks like a building of a game set in the future ... but it's cool.

Maybe twiddle with the contrast and other settings, because it looks very strange next to other Theotown building (It's too realistic)

What angle was the building facing? I tried doing this bout a year ago, but I didn't get it right...

Not sure what angle it was exactly, however I aligned the building to match TheoTown's isometric angle. Taking the photo from a distance may help reduce the "fish eye lense" effect on these kind of Google earth flat building sprites.
