'Positions' of users

I don't know what are they called: 'position', 'level' or 'role', ... , but what do names like 'villager', 'urbaner', etc below the users' avatars really mean, and am i able to change mine?

This is related to the population of the largest city you have

Those are ranks, and the forum will assign you one based on the number of interactions you've done in it. This means that for now the forum gives you the "Townsman" rank, but it will change automatically as you write more posts or put reactons. I've seen several customized ones too though.
