How do I make good looking textures?

Generally speaking, how do I make good looking textures? Each time I try and make one it just comes out cartoony and lifeless. Not sure if this is the right place to ask as its my first time on this site.

Try reading these, they helped me make my bland plastic brick houses better looking. I'm still not good at art but these help

Thanks for the links, ill check it out before trying to make any more sprites. This is one of my better house sprites.

Oops, sorry. Heres the PNG version of the sprite. That file is used by paint.net.

Thanks for the links, ill check it out before trying to make any more sprites. This is one of my better house sprites.
