Post News about the Transportation Update


Dear TheoTown Community,

We want to share a status update on our ambitious transport overhaul that many of you have been eagerly anticipating for the past two years. We understand your enthusiasm and curiosity, and we appreciate your patience as we work diligently to deliver the best possible experience.

Over the course of these two years, we've been hard at work reimagining and redefining the transportation systems within TheoTown. Our initial vision was grand, aiming to enhance every aspect of in-game transport, but as we delved into the project, we encountered complexities beyond our expectations. The existing framework of TheoTown was not originally designed to accommodate the extensive enhancements and new functionalities that were suggested. As the game evolved over time, integrating new features became a challenge, resulting in a labyrinthine system that we affectionately refer to as 'spaghetti.' Despite these hurdles, our commitment to providing you with an exceptional experience remains unwavering. While the complete transport overhaul may take longer than anticipated, we have decided to take a slightly different approach to ensure we continue delivering exciting updates.

Instead of focusing solely on the massive transport update, we are dedicating our efforts to more manageable and frequent smaller updates. Our goal is to enhance various aspects of the game, ensuring smoother gameplay and addressing issues that could affect your enjoyment. The maintenance and bug-fixing updates, while not as flashy, are vital to maintaining the stability and quality of TheoTown as it has grown in size and complexity.

As part of our forward-looking strategy, we are exploring the possibility of empowering plugin creators to contribute to the transport systems in TheoTown. By developing APIs and interfaces, we aim to provide the tools for creators to integrate their own transportation systems seamlessly. This approach allows us to focus on core functionality and performance improvements while enabling the community to add their unique touch to the game. While some ideas may not be feasible due to performance constraints, we are committed to maintaining TheoTown's accessibility on a wide range of devices. We carefully evaluate each feature to strike the right balance between implementation and optimization.

We've already made substantial progress in this direction. A smart car Lua API has been introduced, offering creators the means to manage cars dynamically in their plugins. Additionally, we are transitioning station and depot definitions to a tag-based system, enabling deeper integration between plugins and in-game content. We can also give you a glimpse of an upcoming update – the monorail system! This system is planned to replace the legacy elevated railway.

In conclusion, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and enthusiasm. Your feedback and suggestions have been instrumental in shaping TheoTown's journey, and we are excited to embark on this next phase together. Stay tuned for more updates, sneak peeks, and exciting announcements as we continue to shape the future of TheoTown.
