The Place des Vosges is a square in Paris, France that is lined with 17th-century townhouses of red brick and Lutetian limestone. Constructed between 1605 and 1612 during the reign of Henri IV, it was originally called the Place Royale, before French Republican government renamed it after the department of Vosges in 1800. Today, it lies predominantly in the 4th arrondissement in the Marais district, with a marble equestrian statue of Louis XIII in the centre surrounded by four fountains.
